Canadian bachelor party escapes cold at Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Among the more than 500,000 people who have visited the Waste Management Phoenix Open was a Canadian bachelor party.

The 18 men were celebrating not only the pending nuptials, but the desert weather as well.

The men said they chose the golf tournament for the celebration so they could escape the cold weather up north.

Some local fans had to huddle around heaters at night, but these spectators did not mind the temperature at all.

"It’s minus-20 back where we are," said one member of the party, using Celsius degrees. That's about 4 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.

But the men are still proud to call themselves Canadian.

They planned to show their pride by standing outside the popular 16th hole clad in full hockey gear.

"We all got helmets, jerseys, matching shorts, socks -- full gear," a member of the party said. "Watch for it.
