AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Police are investigating the motive behind a shooting at an Avondale home that left a man and children injured.

Late at night, Dannielle Sally's apartment near Buckeye and Dysart roads was suddenly showered with bullets, which appeared to be of a significant caliber and fired in rapid succession.

"Multiple shots were fired through the front of my apartment, and I just I grabbed my kids and got on the ground," Sally said. "They were really scared and just shaking."

Some of the gunshots tore through a bedroom where Sally's children often play video games.

The children were only cut by glass fragments but Sally's boyfriend was struck in the chest by a bullet.

"Had he not turned when he did, it could have went through his chest and he could not be here right now," she said.

Avondale police arrested 31-year-old Keytha McElroy, 30-year-old Chester Pierce and 36-year-old Wayland McAfee in connection with the shooting.

They were booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault.
