Valley Metro bus route changes take effect todayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Valley Metro has made changes to several of its bus routes, changes that took effect first thing Monday morning.
Route 3 – Van Buren. The route was modified west of 75th Ave. in Phoenix and Avondale to provide a weekday frequency increase from 60 minutes to 30 minutes.
Route 7 – 7th St. Route modified and extended. The south end of the route on Dobbins Rd. from 7th St. to Central Ave. was eliminated and replaced with Route 16. The north end of the route was extended from Union Hills to Deer Valley Rd. and connects to Route 19 at 19th Ave.
Route 10 – Roosevelt/Lower Buckeye. Route was extended from 67th Ave. to 75th Ave.
Route 12 – 12th St. Route was extended from Van Buren Rd. to Washington/Jefferson St. to provide a connection with light rail. The segment of the route from 12th St. to Central Station on Van Buren Rd. was eliminated.
Route 16 – 16th St. Route modified and extended. The route segment on 7th St. between Dobbins Rd. and Jesse Owens Pkwy/Baseline Rd. was eliminated. Route 16 now travels on Dobbins Rd. from 16th St. to Central Ave. and provides connections to Routes 0 and 7 along Dobbins Rd.
Route 17/17A – McDowell/Avondale. Routes 17 and 17A have been combined with service continuing to the Desert Sky Mall Transit Center. The weekday frequency increased to 30 minutes west of the mall in Phoenix and in Avondale/Goodyear. The route was also extended to Estrella Pkwy in Goodyear. The bus turnaround loop in Scottsdale was eliminated. The route now travels to the SkySong Transit Center. The school days only trip on 67th Ave. was eliminated.
Route 19 – 19th Ave. The frequency increased from 15 to 12 minutes during peak service hours between 19th Ave./Jefferson and 19th Ave./Union Hills, and frequency decreased from 15 to 24 minutes north and south of those streets. The Deer Valley branch between 19th and 7th Ave. was eliminated and is now covered by Route 7. The portion of the route serving the State Capitol area off of 19th Avenue on Adams Street and Jefferson Street (Capitol Loop) has been eliminated. Two new bus stops have been added on 19th Avenue at Jefferson Street (northbound and southbound).
Route 45 – Broadway. Bus turnaround loop at 19th Ave./Broadway to 19th Ave./Southern Ave. was eliminated ending the route at 19th Ave./Broadway.
Route 50 – Camelback. The frequency increased from 15 to 10 minutes during peak service hours between 67th Ave. and 44th St., and frequency decreased from 15 to every 20 minutes west of 67th Ave.
Route 51 – 51st Ave. Extended route from Van Buren to Lower Buckeye Rd.
Route 70 – Glendale/24th St. Segment of the route that deviated off 24th St. at Buckeye Rd. to serve the airport rental car center was eliminated.
Route 72 – Scottsdale/Rural. Added trips to Chandler segment. Added two northbound weekday trips, two trips on Saturdays and one round trip on Sundays originating in Chandler. Northbound and Southbound routes were also modified. The route now travels to the SkySong Transit Center.
Route 81 – Hayden/McClintock. Added hourly Saturday service in Chandler between 7:15 a.m. and 8:20 p.m.
Route 154 – Greenway. Service was extended in Scottsdale to new park-and-ride at Scottsdale Rd. and Thunderbird Rd. New route will travel east on Butherus, south on 73rd St., south on outer loop to passenger loading area, east then north to roundabout at 73rd St., then resume regular route at Butherus and 73rd St.
Route 156 – Chandler Blvd/Williams Field Rd. Added trips to Chandler segment. Extended last two morning weekday trips; added one Saturday round trip to Phoenix and one Sunday morning westbound trip to Phoenix and Chandler.
Route 277 – Baseline. Route suspended due to unanticipated budget constraints.
Route 685 – Ajo/Gila Bend to Phoenix. Route was modified by diverting from State Route 85 and heading north on Miller, then east on Yuma Rd. to serve downtown Buckeye and the County Justice Center.
Avondale ZOOM. Extended route to Cashion.
Route 511 – Tempe/Scottsdale Airpark Express. Route was modified to travel west on Raintree, south on 73rd St., south on outer loop to passenger loading area, east then north to roundabout at 73rd St., east on Raintree, then resume regular route at Raintree and 73rd St.
