PHOENIX -- A man was rescued from the Phoenix Mountain Preserve on Sunday morning after developing a medical condition while hiking a trail, according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra.

Rescue crews responded to the trail near 40th Street and Shea Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. and began treating the man, who is in his 60s, Saavedra said.

Rescue crews conducted a big-wheel operation and transferred the man into the bed of four-wheel drive Phoenix park ranger truck.

The man was transported to a local hospital by a Phoenix Fire Department ambulance for further evaluation, Saavedra said.
