PHOENIX -- Two painters have died after their hydraulic lift tipped over at the Lower Buckeye Jail, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The painters were pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.

Their names have not yet been released but sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Brandon Jones said they worked for Riddle Painting.

Jones said deputies are investigating the incident. It is not clear whether the painters were wearing safety harnesses.

The lift was on a downhill slope when it tipped over.
