SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Police said a man who was upset about a road closure for Saturday's marathon event was arrested after becoming verbally abusive.

About 8:30 a.m., Phoenix resident Lawrence Martz, 55, was reportedly driving his Ford pickup truck at a high speed north on 68th Street, south of Thomas Road.

Scottsdale police spokesman Officer David Pubins said an officer working a traffic control for PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona stopped Martz.

Martz allegedly verbally abused the officer and expressed anger about the event blocking his route.

He was booked on charges of reckless driving, disorderly conduct, endangerment and aggravated assault.

The incident did not affect the event, Pubins said.
