1 Killed in fiery head-on crash on highway

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- One person was killed in a fiery head-on collision on State Route 88 Saturday night, according to the Apache Junction Police Department.

The collision occured north of Apache Junction.

Police said a southbound Chevrolet Cobalt sedan and northbound Ford pickup truck collided, and the 43-year-old male driver of the Chevy died at the scene.

The pickup truck flipped and caught fire.

A friend of the truck driver was following behind in a different vehicle and saw the accident. He pulled the driver out of the truck before it caught fire.

The truck driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
