PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) -- Prescott police say a 22-year-old man is hospitalized in stable condition after being shot overnight while jogging in an alley.

Lt. Ken Morley says an unidentified person shot Michael Maddux in the abdomen in northern Prescott. The shooting took place in a residential neighborhood before dawn Friday.

Morley says Maddux has been unable to provide details because of his condition. He says police are trying to piece together what happened.

A handgun was found at the scene.

Morley says police will use a metal detector to try to find a bullet that went through Maddux, who is a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Police are advising Prescott residents to take note of their surroundings and call them about anything suspicious.
