PHOENIX -- While the holidays can be tough on the pocketbook, there are simple changes people can make to get back on sound financial footing in the new year.

Financial expert Clare Levison, author of the book "Frugal Isn't Cheap: Spend Less, Save More and Live Better," shared some practical tips and advice for getting financially fit in 2014 with 3TV's Scott Pasmore and Yetta Gibson.

  • Put a plan in place to achieve your goals
  • Find your frugal side
  • Live well on less

"Money is such a taboo topic, but you can't improve your situation if you don't talk about it," Levison said.

She is offering a free presentation Thursday evening at Western International University. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a networking and book-signing event at 7:30 p.m.
