PHOENIX -- Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a house fire that killed a dog Thursday morning.

It happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the neighborhood of 28th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Aerial video from the Fort McDowell Casino News Chopper showed huge flames ripping through the house. Thick black smoke was visible for miles.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the intense flames reached over to the neighbor's yard.

The man who lives in the home was not there when the fire started.

Although firefighters tried to save his dog, they were unable to.

None of the firefighters was injured.
