PHOENIX -- A man died Wednesday night after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Phoenix.

Police said the man was riding his bike in the area of 28th Avenue and McDowell Road when he was struck by a car traveling east on McDowell Road.

Police have not stated which direction the bicyclist was traveling.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The male driver and his passenger, a child, were not injured.

The collision is under investigation, but Phoenix police said impairment does not appear to be a factor.

Authorities closed McDowell Road between 27th and 31st avenues for the investigation.
