MESA, Ariz. -- A woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly attacking a man with a knife while he was holding their 10-month-old son, according to the Mesa Police Department.

About 10:11 p.m., officers responded to an apartment on the 1800 block of East Covina Street, near University Drive and Gilbert Road, for a report of a family fight.

The officers contacted the man, who had two young children with him, and learned that the woman, 23-year-old Kassandra A. Henning, was inside the apartment.

The apartment complex's security guard was also on scene.

Police convinced Henning to come out of the apartment and took her into custody.

Police said Henning and the man lived together and are the parents of the 10-month-old boy.

The man tried to leave with the children after he and Henning got into an argument, and a physical scuffle ensued, police said.

The infant reportedly had a red mark on his forehead, which the man told police happened when Henning allegedly attacked him.

The baby was examined by paramedics.

Henning was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault and child abuse.
