PHOENIX -- While parts of the country see record cold temperatures, the Southwest will experience mild weather in the new week ahead.
A high-pressure ridge keeps temperatures slightly above average during the afternoons, and dry weather persists through at least Thursday. Overnight lows will dip to the low 30s to low 40s around town, but afternoon highs will warm nicely to the upper 60s and low 70s through Thursday.
By midweek, a storm will begin to move down the California coastline toward the Southwest. There will be a slight chance of rain in the Valley Thursday night and Friday. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler in the mid 60s on Friday, but will warm back to near 70 over the weekend.
