Manic Managed Mom Beauty Quick FixesPosted: Updated:
I don't call myself manic managed for nothing and I think most of us feel that way as we try to stay on top of our manic schedules while trying to look and feel managed. So to do that, I put together a list of my favorite quick fix beauty products. Most of these items are affordable and are sold at the drug store. And many of these items fit conveniently in your purse, which also works great for the traveling manic managed gal, too. From head to toe, here we go....
Hair Help Quick Fix Stuff:
Frustration: Hair flyaways, especially in our dry weather or when you want your hair in an ponytail or updo without those annoying flyaway strands.
Fab Fix: Dryer sheets work, so I always love that trick but for a fix that will last all day, give your hair some shine and keep the strands nicely tucked into your updo or ponytail, try John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme ($1.49 at Walgreens). Walgreens beauty expert Bianca tells me that her customers swear by this stuff. The finishing creme instantly tames frizz, smoothes frayed ends and works well for both straight and curly hair styles. The price is terrific and it is offered in a convenient travel size.
Frustration: No time for a shampoo because you woke up late or are traveling, etc.
Fab Fix: Batiste Dry Shampoo ($3.99 at Walgreens) is a nice travel sized easy to spray on dry shampoo that will absorb the oils and give you an extra day of clean looking hair without having to shampoo. I love the clean scent that isn't overpowering like some other dry shampoos that I have tried. I give this one a big thumbs up.
Frustration: No time to style hair and want it out of your face.
Fab Fix: Mia Thick Braidie Braided Headband ($6.99 at Walgreens). This is by far the quickest and easiest hair accessory to simply throw in your hair and go. Every time I wear it or my daughter wears one, we get compliments with assumptions that it is our own hair that is braided in when it is simply a headband that we put on in five seconds. The Mia headband is natural looking, lightweight and can also be easily kept in your purse.
For the Face:
Frustration: Tired eyes, blemishes and other ailments that dull face.
Fab Fix: Dermablend Quick-Fix Illuminator ($25 at Macy's, Ulta and Dillard's). I have been a big fan of the Dermablend line ever since our show makeup artist, Celebrity/Professional Makeup Artist Karen Hall recommended their foundation for my on-air makeup routine. So I was thrilled to try the multi-purpose concealer and highlighter that conceals, brightens and illuminates all in one. The twist up applicator is easy to use, easy to pack and keeps the pollutants out of the product since it rolls out the perfect amount for the face. It is also allergy tested and fragrance free.
Frustration: Oily T-zone spots that you notice when you are out and about.
Fab Fix: Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets Portable ($6.99 at Walgreens). Bianca swears by this product, as do her customers because you can grab a small sheet, swipe your oily spot and it instantly disappears. Bianca tells me that she has oily skin, so this product is her go to item every time. It instantly removes excess oil and it won't smudge makeup which is the perfect quick fix combination.
Frustration: Runny makeup or makeup application mistake.
Fab Fix: Almay Oil Free Makeup Eraser Sticks ($5.99 at Walgreens). These smart eraser sticks fit right into your makeup bag in a handy snap case. Simply snap off one end and a dab of makeup remover is released into the other end of the Q-tip for quick clean-up of runny mascara or other makeup mistakes and/or frustrations.
Frustration: Need to change out lip color or other makeup shades on the run with no time to go home.
Fab Fix: Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes ($3.49 at Walgreens). Sometimes you want to change out your lip color or your blush to go from day to night with no time to go home to your full makeup kit. Carry the travel sized Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes and your problem is solved. I like that this is hypoallergenic because I have sensitive skin plus the cloth is biodegradable making this a green earth-friendly product, too.
Frustration: Pale cheeks and your blush from your morning makeup application has worn off.
Fab Fix: Maybelline Master Glaze by FaceStudio Blush Stick ($8.99 at Walgreens). My daughter, who does community theatre with 3 shows a day at times, swears by the staying power of this blush. Plus no brush or compact is needed since it simply rolls out of an easy to travel with stick and blends in your cheeks with your fingers.
Frustration: Worried about your breath with no time to brush teeth and no mints on hand.
Fab Fix: Hello Seriously Friendly Breath Spray ($4.79 at Walgreens). Another customer favorite, Bianca tells me, is this super small easy to travel with breath spray that is 99% natural with no alcohol, artificial colors or harsh chemicals. I also like the variety of flavors like Sweet Cinnamint and Pink Grapefruit Mint. The small size is handy, too.
Frustration: Dry lips that need color and no room in makeup bag for liner, color and gloss.
Fab Fix: Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm and/or Lacquer Balm ($8.99 at Walgreens). Not only is our hometown girl, Emma Stone the celebrity endorser of this product, but I love it because it does it all by lining lips, providing color and then a finishing shine all in one handy crayon pencil. No sharpening is ever needed and it won't leak making this the perfect quick fix for lips on the run. Lots of great shades are offered in either matte or glossy in the collection, too.
Frustration: Not so white teeth due to coffee, iced tea, etc.
Fab Fix: Crest 3D Whitestrips 5 Minute Touch Up Strips ($39.99 at Walgreens). These teeth whitening strips couldn't be easier. They simply press right on to both your top and bottom rows of teeth. I felt a teeny bit of tingling and in 5 minutes, my teeth were definitely whiter and brighter. The only downside, in my opinion, is the price and the unpleasant after taste, but to get a teeth whitening treatment this quickly, I'm sold on it. The box comes with 28 strips and each is packaged separately so they can be thrown in your on the go makeup bag.
Nails and Hands Help
Frustration: No time to schedule a special occasion manicure.
Fab Fix: Salon Effects Mani Reverse French ($10.49 at Walgreens) is a unique style that is trending with a reverse French style that has the tip at the base of the nail and the main color covering the majority and front of the nail bed. To see an example, watch the segment. With the easy to follow 3-step application process that includes peeling, applying and filing this can be done at home without taking the time to schedule a fancy mani in your already crammed schedule.
Frustration: Dry cuticles with no time for a professional manicure.
Fab Fix: Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream ($6.49 at Walgreens) contains nourishing Vitamin E and is 100% natural. Plus the handy small container is easy to toss in your makeup bag for quick cuticle conditioning. You gotta love the Burt's Bees line.
For The Feet
Frustration: Mani & pedi mistakes with no time to start over.
Fab Fix: Sally Hansen No More Mistakes Manicure Clean-Up Pen ($5.99 at Walgreens). This handy eraser pen instantly erases smudges and smears. With my unsteady hands, this is the perfect quick fix tool for me.
Frustration: Dry cracked heels that are itchy and unsightly.
Fab Fix: Toe Juice by Dermavine ($5 for a 1 oz. travel size at Walgreens) -- Bianca first told me about Toe Juice for dry cracked heels last year and once I showed it, I had several viewers write to me to tell me that it also worked well for them. My gal pal Amy also told me that this product works wonders for her feet when she pairs it with a pedicure scrubbing tool. This cool stuff is made with a blend of plant extracts called Dermavine that has ingredients like lemon peel extracts and willow bark. Toe Juice is sold at Walgreens or visit www.toejuice.com.
