Phoenix police seek driver in fatal hit-and-run

PHOENIX – Phoenix police are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run Wednesday night.

Sgt. Steve Martos said a 50-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Van Buren and 24th streets at approximately 9 p.m.

The man, whose name has not been released, died at an area hospital.

Detectives determined that the victim was walking southbound in the crosswalk against the traffic signal when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a blue sport utility vehicle, possibly a Toyota Sequoia. The driver was described as a white male with a beard.
