MESA, Ariz. -- A man was arrested on several charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and two Mesa police officers on New Year's Eve.

Around 11:45 p.m., two officers witnessed 31-year-old Adam Joseph Carlsen pushing his girlfriend against a wall near 110th Street and Broadway Road, according to Mesa Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tony Landato.

When the officers tried to intervene, Carlsen allegedly pushed and shoved them.

Landato said Carlsen then ran to a home and released two dogs.

Both dogs bit one of the officers.

Landato said the officers used a stun gun to subdue Carlsen and caught the dogs.

The officers sustained minor injuries, and one was treated for the dog bites at a local hospital.

The dogs were quarantined at a nearby animal hospital for observation.

Carlsen was booked on two felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of resisting arrest, two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence assault, and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage.
