PHOENIX -- A pedestrian standing on a corner waiting to cross the street was hit by a car and killed Monday evening.

It happened around 5 p.m. near 29th Street and Greenway Parkway in northeast Phoenix.

Sgt. Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department said a car traveling westbound on Greenway Parkway  tried to make a left-hand turn onto 29th Street when it was struck by another car.

One of those cars struck the pedestrian, who was declared dead at the scene. Police on Tuesday morning identified that victim as Cameron Matthew Hall, 37.

Those who live nearby say they're saddened by the tragedy.

"Obviously, somebody lost their life tonight. It's a tragedy," says area resident John Rivera. "It's sad to see, especially around the holidays."

Those in the two cars involved also suffered minor injuries.

Greenway was shut down for several hours at the intersection where the crash happened.

Police say Hall was an innocent bystander who was simply waiting to cross the street.
