PHOENIX – A former high school wrestling coach charged with luring a minor for sexual exploitation pleaded not guilty Monday morning.

Kyle DeBerry, 25, was arrested Dec. 11 after an investigation that lasted several months.

DeBerry was a wrestling coach and special education teacher at Desert Edge High School in Goodyear.

According to court paperwork, a 16-year-old female student told school staff that she had been receiving sexually explicit text messages from DeBerry. She provided screen shots from her cellphone showing the messages sent and received.

The student told police that DeBerry requested to have sex with her and asked her to send photographs of herself to him. Police said the pictures did not qualify as pornographic images.

The victim also told police that she pushed DeBerry away after he kissed her on the lips and bit her neck while they were in a school supply room in May.

DeBerry's next court date is Feb. 13.
