PHOENIX – A man accused of carjacking an elderly couple and driving off with the male passenger still in the vehicle pleaded not guilty Monday morning.

Chateen Latfolla, 32, was charged with robbery, theft of means of transportation, assault and kidnapping.

Police said Latfolla approached an SUV at 51st Street and Elliot Road in the Ahwatukee area on Dec. 14 and pulled the 85-year-old female driver out of the vehicle. He then drove off in the SUV not realizing the woman's 91-year-old husband was still in the passenger seat.

Officers arrested Latfolla at Wild Horse Pass Casino. The male passenger was found with casino security and was not injured.

The woman was treated for her injuries.

Latfolla's next court date is Jan. 29.
