TEMPE, Ariz. -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting Saturday night at Arizona Mills Mall.

It occurred near a bus stop in a parking lot on the east side of the mall.

About 5:50 p.m., Voyee Smith, 20, was at the mall with his girlfriend and a female friend when an altercation began between them and another group of people, according to Tempe Police Sgt. Michael Pooley.

Smith and a person from the other group reportedly pulled out guns and began shooting at each other.

Pooley said one of the rounds struck Smith's girlfriend in the arm.

Witnesses said Smith continued to fire rounds at the group as they fled the scene on foot. Pooley said the area was crowded with multiple pedestrians at the time of the shooting.

Smith allegedly collided with another vehicle as he fled the scene in his car.

Police contacted Smith at his girlfriend's home after she called authorities to tell them she had been shot. Smith's firearm was also found at the home, Pooley said.

Smith was arrested on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits, endangerment, and striking an unattended vehicle.

No other injures have been reported.

Police have little information regarding the other suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
