Time to recycle your Christmas treePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Now that Christmas has come and gone, it's time to start thinking about recycling your live Christmas tree.
As pretty as they are, live trees also are a fire hazard, especially as they dry out.
Earlier this week, Larissa Dvorak of the Mesa Fire Department demonstrated just how fast a moderately dry tree can burn. Flames engulfed the entire tree in seconds.
"This time of the year, most of the home fires -- a great many of them -- are due to dried-out Christmas trees," Mesa fire Capt. Dean Morales said.
The National Fire Protection Association suggests you dispose of your tree when it starts dropping needles.
Make sure you remove all of the decorations.
