PHOENIX -- A high pressure system that is firmly in control of Arizona’s weather pattern will keep skies clear and afternoon temperatures in the 70s for the rest of the week.

On Christmas day, Sky Harbor Airport reported an official high of 71 degrees after a morning low of 42 degrees.

A "No Burn Day" restriction continued through the evening hours for Maricopa County as a high level of pollution remained in the air.

Thursday morning, expect a low of 41 degrees in Phoenix with an afternoon high of 70 degrees. Friday should be a repeat performance.

The normal high temperature this time of year is 65 degrees.

For Saturday, a low pressure system will track southeast from southern California.

This will bring clouds to the Valley, but rain is not expected. High temperatures will drop one degree or two.

By Sunday, this system will leave our area and sunshine will return.

Next week, high pressure will again build into region, bringing the return of 70-degree afternoons.
