MESA, Ariz. -- Police arrested a man early Monday morning who allegedly threatened his roommate with a gun.

It happened at an apartment complex in the 4600 block of East Caballero Street, which is near Greenfield Road and University Drive.

When police arrived on scene, three residents told them that 25-year-old Jeremy Lamont Bell was inside an apartment with a handgun.

The residents said Bell pointed the gun at a roommate after a physical confrontation.

They said Bell was upset and suspected his boyfriend, another roommate, of cheating on him.

The apartment was surrounded by police and Bell came out without the gun. Officers found the gun during a sweep of the apartment.

Police said Bell admitted he pointed the handgun at his roommate but said it was in self-defense. Bell is not allowed to have a gun because of a prior felony conviction, according to police.

Bell was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon, prohibited possession of a firearm and assault.
