MCSO delivers toys to kidsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Bikes, radio-controlled cars and stuffed animals -- toys just in time for Christmas in order to put a smile on a child's face who otherwise might have ended up with nothing under the tree this year.
It's the end result of a toy drive put on by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
"This is good to let the kids know that law enforcement is there to help them, protect them. We're not the enemy, so there's a lot of different reasons for doing this. Also to take care of the kids," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
For most of December, cardboard bins were placed inside several stores, making it easy for customers to buy and drop off toys all in one visit.
The kids will get all the toys after eating a hot meal at St. Vincent de Paul on Christmas Day.
"I wish we could give toys to kids all over the Valley, but with the resources and limited resources this is wonderful. We can't complain," Rodney Moore with St. Vincent de Paul said.
