SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It was a special day for more than 300 kids and many police officers.

The annual "Shop with a Cop" event, which brings together local police agencies and kids for a day of shopping, has grown over the past 11 years.

This year, about 325 kids from all over the Valley participated in the event, which also included a big breakfast.

"(I'm) super excited because I've never shopped with a cop before," said 7-year-old Raven Rohlsen, who was shopping for a Crazy Loom bracelet kit.

Det. Jim Hill, President of the Police Officers of Scottsdale Association, said that with 10 agencies participating, the event is a "huge undertaking."

But the officers, who participate on their own time, are able to show a side of themselves many kids have not seen before.

“This is a chance for the kids and the cops to see each other under happy circumstances,” Hill said.
