GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- A man was killed after he was hit by a semi truck in Goodyear Friday night, police said.

The truck driver, 39-year-old Rene Guevara, was arrested on suspicion of driving impaired.

The collision occurred just before 7 p.m. on Litchfield Road, near La Canada Boulevard.

Police said the man, who was in his 50s, was walking in the middle of the road when he was hit by the northbound semi truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was not a crosswalk nearby and the area was not well-lit.

The man had not been identified by Saturday afternoon.

Police said Guevara will be charged based on blood test results.

Litchfield Road from La Canada to Loma Linda boulevards was closed for several hours Friday night.

The collision is still under investigation.
