PHOENIX -- An SUV crashed into a Phoenix apartment building Friday afternoon leaving some residents briefly trapped.

The apartment complex is at 7th Street and Mountain View Road which is between Dunlap Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

Some of the residents needed help from firefighters to get out of their damaged apartment.

The SUV was involved in a collision with another vehicle before hitting the apartment.

The vehicle took out a support post to a balcony and severely damaged an external staircase leading to two apartments.

The car came to a stop after slightly penetrating the exterior wall of a downstairs apartment.

Four patients were evaluated by Phoenix Fire paramedics.

No patients were transported to the hospital.

Four apartments were compromised by the accident.

The apartment manager and Phoenix Fire are assisting the occupants of the apartments in finding shelter.

City of Phoenix building engineers were on scene to determine the structural stability of the apartments affected.
