Dirt bike rider killed in collision with ATVPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A dirt bike rider was killed in a collision with an all-terrain vehicle late Tuesday afternoon and police want to speak with the ATV driver, who left the scene.
According to Phoenix police, the vehicles collided in the desert area near Bell Road and 56th Street shortly after 5 p.m.
The rider of the Yamaha dirt bike, Frisco Davidson-Spurs Yankolovich, was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Police said the 20-year-old was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The rider of the quad stopped and looked at the victim then left the scene, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. Investigators want to speak with the rider.
He is described as a white male in his 50s with long hair and a full beard, which is gray or salt-and-pepper colored, according to witnesses. It is unknown if he was injured.
The witnesses said they frequently see the man riding in the desert and he has helped construct a number of the off-road jumps in that area.
Thompson said performance enhancement equipment has been added to his vehicle.
