YOUNGTOWN, Ariz. -- Investigators with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office have arrested a suspect in a homicide outside a Youngtown hotel over the weekend.

Joseph Gonzales, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday morning near Surprise.

The shooting happened Saturday night in the parking lot of the Best Western hotel near 111th and Grand avenues.

Witnesses said they heard a gunshot and saw a man lying motionless on the ground. Gonzales reportedly left the scene in a 1990s model gray-silver sedan.

MCSO spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said Gonzales was the shooter. The driver, Jamal Akil Perryman, was taken into custody Monday night at a home in Phoenix.

The sheriff's homicide unit had been following up on tips about Gonzales' location and the MCSO SWAT team went to several houses looking for him.
