PHOENIX -- Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a field in South Phoenix Wednesday morning.

Somebody who was driving in the area spotted the body in a field near 59th Avenue just north of Warner Street, which is between Lower Buckeye and Broadway roads.

The the victim, an adult male, has not been identified. Detectives are not sure if he was killed at the scene or if his body, which was in plain sight, was dumped there.

While investigators are not saying exactly how the man died, they believe it was violent.

"It appears there was trauma involved," Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said. "We consider this a homicide."

That's all detectives know for certain at this point.

"We're at square one right now," Thompson told 3TV's Javier Soto. "We have a lot of unanswered questions."

Detectives are hoping members of the community can answer some of those questions.

Investigators are working to identify the victim and piece together the last hours of his life. Because it's so early in the investigation, they have no information about who might have killed the man.

If you have any information about who the victim is or what happened to him, call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377).
