PHOENIX -- There are people for whom you definitely buy holiday gifts or perhaps tip and those you don't. What about those who fall in between? Your landscapers? Your mail carrier? Your boss?

Susan Von Hellens of the Protocol School of Phoenix shared her best practices with 3TV's Javier Soto.

In general, professional should not be tipped. Rather, a small gift -- generally valued at less $20 -- is appropriate.

For service providers, a year-end is a good way to thank them for consistent good service.

If you're not comfortable with either of those options, consider a charitable donation in a person's name.

Not that some organizations such as USPS have specific rules regarding gifts and tipping.

All of Von Hellens' gift suggestions were from Orange Patch Too in Mesa.
