TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- An Arizona couple has been arraigned on charges that they imprisoned the woman's three daughters inside their Tucson home.
A Pima County Superior Court judge assigned two court-appointed attorneys Friday for 34-year-old Fernando Richter and 32-year-old Sophia Richter. The couple's next scheduled court appearance is Jan. 14.
An indictment charges the Richters with kidnapping and child abuse.
They're accused of keeping the three girls locked in their rooms during a three-month period ending on Nov. 26. That's when police discovered the girls' alleged captivity.
Tucson police say the siblings are ages 12, 13 and 17.
Fernando Richter is the girls' stepfather. He also is charged with aggravated assault on two of the girls and aggravated assault on a police officer who came to the home after authorities were alerted.
