YUMA, Ariz. – Firefighters in Yuma rescued a cat that got its head stuck in a dog food can.

Two women saw the adult gray cat in the street, walking blind and nearly hit by a car, according to Yuma Fire Department spokesman Mike Erfert.

They picked it up and took it to Fire Station No. 4 to see if they could get some help.

Firefighter Ladd Elwood was able to cut off the can and free the cat.

"With proper protection, and apparent cooperation from the cat, neither cat nor firefighter was injured in the rescue," Erfert said.

The women thought they had seen the cat in their neighborhood before so they took it with them to see if they could find its home.
