Snack like a modelPosted: Updated:
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs Dec. 10 nationwide and women across America want to know: What are their secrets (no pun intended!) to getting those perfect bodies?
While eating well-balanced breakfasts, lunches and dinners are a huge part of their beauty success, each VS model highly depends on snacks to keep them energized on and off the runway.
Cup of Joe: Alessandra Ambrosio understands the importance of revving your metabolism. In the evening she tends to snack on nuts and can typically be found with a cup of coffee in hand. Coffee can help lower your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, which is further linked to obesity. A 2012 study found that a compound in coffee actually helped to block a substance in the body called human islet amyloid polypeptide that may play a role in the development of diabetes. Further studies have demonstrated that caffeinated coffee consumption is linked to decreased diabetes risk as well.
Shake it Up: Lindsay Ellingson revealed the secret to her natural curves is drinking high-fat almond butter milkshakes. "I think it's sexier and more feminine to be more full. So I add like almond butter, peanut butter, protein shakes to my diet, just to feel a little sexier and curvier." Monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil and olives, canola oil, almonds, cashews, peanuts, peanut butter, sesame seeds, and avocadoes, have been found to reduce belly fat when taken in just under an ounce and a half a day also reducing the risk of metabolic disease.
Healthy Indulgences: Karlie Kloss is not shy when it comes to snacking and is known to have a healthy helping in her purse at all times. Two of her must-haves are KIND Bars made of whole nuts and dark chocolate and vegan Karlie's Kookies - both indulgent yet healthy pick-me-ups. Deprivation and restriction is not the way to healthy body weight. Registered Dietitian Maya Nahra said all too often she sees clients in an all-or-nothing, pizza-and-cake or carrots-and-celery mentality. A common belief is that you must remove everything you love to lose weight and the fact is, it's just not true.
Coco and Cacao: Toni Garrn keeps her purse stock full of snacks. She was spotted backstage at this year's show with coconut water and raw chocolate. Pure coconut water is a natural drink contining natural salts, sugars, and vitamins. Due to this combination it has developed quite the hydration reputation. It is not uncommon for most of us to mux up hunger and thirst cues. Maintaining hydration and mineral levels in the body can ultimately help reduce unnecessary calorie consumption. A new government-funded study of nearly 1,000 healthy adults shows that people who frequently eat chocolate actually weigh less than those who say they eat it less frequently. Study researchers say that people who reported eating chocolate five times a week had a body mass index (BMI) about one point less, on average, than people who said they ate chocolate less frequently. For a woman around 5 feet 6 inches tall, that's about 5 pounds.
