Victim in deadly shooting identified; police need your help to find killerPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Police are trying to determine who shot and killed a man in a Glendale neighborhood Thursday morning.
The victim, identified as Malcom Crittendon, 40, of Phoenix, was found near a bus stop in the area of 59th Avenue and Colter Street, which is north of Camelback Road.
According to police, a man was walking to the bus stop at about 6:20 a.m. when he spotted Crittendon lying alongside the road near a drainage ditch.
Crittendon was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
At this point, police do not know the circumstances surrounding the shooting, nor do they have any suspect information. It's also not clear if Crittendon was shot at the scene where he was found or if somebody dumped him there.
Several blocks from just north of Colter Avenue to Camelback Road were taped off as police launched their investigation, searching the area for any scrap of evidence.
"When you don't have a whole lot of information, you want to check all of the surrounding area to see if there is any piece of evidence that might be there," Glendale Police Department spokeswoman Tracey Breeden said.
The search did not turn up much. Breeden said no weapons were located in the area where Crittendon was found and no witnesses have come forward
With so little to go on, detectives are turning to the public for help figuring out what happened to Crittendon.
If you have any information or saw anything suspicious in the are of 59th Avenue and Colter Street early Thursday more, police ask that you call them at 623-930-3399 or call Silent Witness at either 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 1-800-343-TIPS (8477).
