HYDER, Ariz. -- A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized after being run over by a school bus Wednesday morning.

About 7 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff's Office responded to Dateland Elementary School in Hyder.

Upon arrival, deputies were told that the boy was hit near a bus stop in the 14000 block of North Avenue 74E. He was running alongside the bus, trying to catch it before it departed.

The bus driver did not see the boy and accidentally ran him over, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The boy's brother saw him lying in the road, picked him up, and took him home. A grandparent at the house then took the child to the school, where she knew a paramedic was stationed.

Tri-Valley Ambulance responded to Dateland Elementary and requested an air ambulance.

The boy was flown to a Phoenix area hospital, where he was in stable condition Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the bus driver did not realize she ran over the child. She continued her route and was notified of the incident when she reached the school.

Authorities ruled it an accident and did not issue any citations.

The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name of the boy because he is a minor.
