ASU preps for big game, paints football fieldPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Are you ready for some football? The Sun Devils sure are!
ASU is prepping for Saturday's big game against Stanford, and Bruce Haffner in the Fort McDowell Casino Newschopper gave us a birds-eye view of some of the work that's underway.
Crews have been busy at Sun Devil Stadium, painting Frank Kush field and giving it a fresh look for this weekend's match-up.
Painters used 60 gallons of white paint, 50 gallons of gold and 30 gallons of maroon to freshen up the field. Even Sparky provides a vivid presence against the green background. And we're told crews painted him freehand!
The paint job has been in the planning stages for some time, as the grounds crew makes sure everything is perfect for the game.
No. 11 ASU will face No. 7 Stanford in the Pac-12 title game Saturday evening. ASU students have actually been camping out to get the best tickets.
On Sept. 21, Stanford defeated ASU 42-28 at Stanford Stadium. This weekend's rematch has been called one of ASU's bigger games in recent memory.
To get there, ASU had to knock off rival Arizona. In front of more than 70,000 fans at sold-out Sun Devil Stadium last weekend, the Sun Devils scored a 58-21 win over the Wildcats.
