PHOENIX -- Police are searching for a person who shot and killed a security guard at a Phoenix apartment complex early Friday morning.

At about 1:30 a.m., police were called to the complex near 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found Jeffrey Bellemare, 59, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Phoenix firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to police, Bellemare was working as a security guard at the time.

Police do not have any information about the suspect, but witnesses reported seeing a suspicious vehicle fleeing the complex after they heard gunshots.

Police are searching for an older model, light-colored sedan with damage to the fender on the driver's side. The vehicle is also believed to have a vinyl top but is not a convertible.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
