Couple dead in Laveen rolloverPosted: Updated:
LAVEEN – A man and a woman were killed in a single-vehicle rollover in Laveen early Sunday morning.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a 2001 four-door Lexus was traveling north on 51st Avenue near Carver Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control just after 4 a.m.
The vehicle rolled over several times, coming to rest in the driveway of a house on the corner of Estrella Drive and 51st Avenue. No one from the residence was hurt.
The vehicle was occupied by a man and his girlfriend, both 26 years old. They were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Joseph Medina and Patricia Castaneda.
They were not wearing their seat belts, according to MCSO spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez.
There was some damage to the carport and a parked vehicle at the house where the vehicle came to rest.
Enriquez said speed was a factor in the rollover. At this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor but it's being investigated.
