PHOENIX -- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is preparing for heavy Thanksgiving traffic by offering alternatives for picking up and dropping off travelers.

To reduce traffic congestion near Terminal 4, the airport will close the East Cell Phone Lot at 6 a.m. Friday and direct drivers to a lot northeast of the airport that can accommodate four times as many vehicles. The East Cell Phone Lot will reopen Dec. 4 at 6 a.m.

The cell phone lot just west of Terminal 2 will remain open for drivers entering the airport from the west.

Visitors can also use PHX Sky Train to avoid traffic congestion around Terminal 4, which serves 80 percent of Sky Harbor’s passengers. The PHX Sky Train station at Washington and 44th streets offers a free cell phone lot and is a five-minute ride from the terminal.

Airlines in Terminal 4 include Southwest, US Airways, Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways, Volaris and WestJet.

Visitors planning to park in a terminal garage through Dec. 5 can print a 40 percent off coupon from

Sky Harbor is reminding visitors to drive safely and watch for people directing traffic throughout the airport.

Thanksgiving traffic updates will be posted on freeway signs and Sky Harbor’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
