KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A Kingman man was arrested on aggravated assault charges after an alleged incident of domestic violence.

Mohave County sheriff's deputies arrested Jason Lloyd Hartwick, 30, for aggravated assault per domestic violence, a felony, along with assault per domestic violence and preventing the use of a phone in an emergency, which are misdemeanors.

Deputies responded to a disturbance at a home in the 3200 block of East Packard Avenue Tuesday night after the reporting party said that her mother and stepfather were fighting, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Trish Carter.

Deputies contacted Hartwick's wife. She told them that she got upset with her husband when she arrived home and learned that he had chopped off her 10-year-old daughter's hair as punishment.

The 10-year-old girl told the deputies that she fell and hit her eye on a chair when Hartwick pulled her out of it. Deputies said she had redness around her eye. She also said that Hartwick proceeded to spank her with a shoe while he sat on her.

The girl reported that Hartwick slammed her mother against a wall and broke a cellphone when her older sister attempted to call 911.

Carter said Hartwick told deputies that nothing happened other than an argument.

Hartwick was taken into custody without incident. He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail.

The sheriff's office notified Child Protective Services of the incident.
