Drive-by shooting in Mesa leaves woman deadPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- A house party in Mesa Monday night ended with a drive-by shooting that left a woman dead. But despite a number of witnesses, police still have no suspects in custody.
The 30-year-old woman was shot and killed on a residential street near Stapley Drive and Main Street around 3 a.m. Police say a number of people had been gathered at a nearby home.
"There was a group gathered at a residence here," Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato said. "And then another group that had arrived in a vehicle. And then there was some sort of dispute between these two groups that ultimately erupted in gunfire."
A witness said the victim was shot by someone in a vehicle.
"She was going to our house, but she ended up walking away from our house because she was drunk, and they ended up following them, and I guess she went up to them, and they opened the door and shot at her," he said.
The victim's name has not been released pending notification of her family. Detectives are trying to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting, and have executed a search warrant at the home where the gathering took place.
