BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- The town of Buckeye is becoming a city.

Changing the town of Buckeye to a city was put to a vote earlier this month with those in favor winning.

The Town Council is expected to vote on it and approve it Tuesday evening. At that point, it will be official.

The town officials have argued that changing the status could help raise the profile of Buckeye, which is the nation's ninth fastest growing community.

As a city, officials believe it will attract more economic development and create more jobs.

Those opposed to the idea feel becoming a city will take away from the attractiveness of small town living.

Once the council approves the change, it's believed the city won't actually take on the status until Jan. 1.
