MESA, Ariz. -- Police are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 30-year-old woman in Mesa.

It happened just before 3 a.m.in the neighborhood of Second Street and Spencer, which is northwest of Main Street and Stapley Drive.

Officers responding to several shots-fired calls discovered the victim just outside a home. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from some kind of confrontation between a group that was gathered at a home and a second group that arrived in a vehicle.

While there is nobody in custody and no suspect information at this time, police say neighbors do not need to worry about their own safety.

"We believe this is really just between two groups that were here earlier this morning," Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato told 3TV's Jill Galus. "We don't feel there's a threat to the surrounding neighborhood at all."

Detectives are trying to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting. At this point, they do not have a clear picture of what happened.

"Unfortunately we have more questions than answers right now," Landato said. "We can't even really say if there was an exchange of gunfire of if this was just one-sided."

The victim, who was with the group at the house, has not been identified.
