PHOENIX -- Getting a degree is getting more and more expensive so a lot of students are going to community colleges.

But graduation rates from those schools had been declining so President Obama challenged them to do better.

A new report shows Maricopa County community colleges are doing just that. Graduation rates are up 8 percent.

Nearly a third of students who started in 2007 ended up getting their degrees within six years.

The Maricopa County Community College District includes 10 colleges. The report didn't break down graduation rates of the schools separately.
