PHOENIX -- Smartphones and tablet can do a lot of things. That includes watching live broadcast television without a Wi-Fi connection and without using your cellular plan.
Audiovox has come up with a little gadget called "mobiletv," and it's exactly what it sounds like -- an antenna system that transmits to your Apple or Android mobile device.
"This is really designed for people we that call cord cutters," Ken Colburn of Data Doctors explained to 3TV's Kaley O'Kelley.
Viewing options are limited to over-the-air local channels, including independent stations like 3TV and most network affiliates. Cable and satellite channels are not available.
The mobiletv is wireless, connecting to your device via Bluetooth. It just needs to be within 25 feet of your smartphone or tablet.
The gadget works with the free Dyle mobile TV app, which is available in the Apple App Store and Android's Google Play.
The Audiovox mobiletv receiver runs between $100 and $130, but that's a one-time cost. There are no monthly fees.
