MESA, Ariz. -- If you watch Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year you may see some familiar faces. Mountain View High School's band will be performing in the parade.

The band has applied to be in the parade three times in the past five years.

They went through a selection process and sent in an application video of past performances. The selection committee liked what it saw and showed up to Mountain View in April 2013 to make the announcement.

Band students have been practicing every morning for an hour and on Tuesday nights for three hours in preparation for both the state championship on Saturday and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"The kids have stepped it up and they have done a really great job," Band Director Scott Burgener said.

The parade has been going on for 87 years, and four Arizona schools have been chosen to perform since then.

"It's really big for our school and our community," Burgener said.

Band students will have a couple days to sight see in New York City before performing. They will have an early morning practice around 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, then will march in the parade.

The 87th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on NBC from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, November 28.
