PHOENIX – A man accused of trying to grab a 14-year-old girl then chasing after her with a baseball bat pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.

Tommy Andrade, 38, is charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

According to Phoenix police, the victim spotted the suspect holding a bat and sitting on a bus bench in the area of 19th Avenue and Roeser Road on Oct. 25.

The girl told police that Andrade reached out and tried to grab her hand as she walked up. According to the police report, when the teen slapped his hand away and tried to walk past him, he stood up and grabbed her leg.

The victim ran away with Andrade following her with the bat. She flagged down a female driver, who pulled over and let the teen get into her car.

The victim identified Andrade in a photographic lineup and he was arrested.

According to the police report, Andrade admitted "contacting the victim at the bus stop, admitted that he wanted to have sex with her, and that he had tried to get a date with her for the purpose of having sex with her."

His next court date is an initial pretrial conference on Dec. 20.
