An updated look at ASU single-season records in dangerPosted: Updated:
Let's take an updated look at where some Arizona State players stand in their quest to break some Sun Devil single-season records.
Total Touchdowns: Current record - 22 (Whizzer White, 1950)
For a second straight game, Marion Grice failed to find the end zone, but he still figures to be a heavy favorite to break this mark. Grice remains on 18 total touchdowns on the year, and will have at least four games left to play.
All Purpose Yards: Current record - 2,065 (Whizzer White, 1950)
Grice put up 219 all-purpose yards against Utah (136 rushing, 20 receiving, 63 returning) to give him 1,517 on the year. At this current pace, Grice would finish with a record 2,191.
Points: Current record - 136 (Whizzer White, 1950)
Despite being held scoreless against Utah, Grice should easily pass this mark, as he already has 108 on the year, putting him on pace for 156. However, White played just 10 games that year, so Grice is currently trailing the points-per-game mark at 12.0 to 13.5.
Passing Yards: Current record - 4,036 (Brock Osweiler, 2011)
Taylor Kelly was held to just 14 4yards against Utah, giving him now has 2,655 through nine games. That put him behind the record pace he was on (now 3,835), so some bigger numbers will be needed in the coming weeks.
Passing Touchdown: Current record - 30 (Andrew Walter, 2004)
Kelly has 24 through nine games after his game-winner to Rick Smith, and Kelly is now on pace to break the record with 35.
Total Offense: Current record - 4,126 (Brock Osweiler, 2011)
Kelly had just 135 yards of total offense against Utah (144 passing, -9 rushing), but he's still on pace to comfortably break Osweiler's record with 4,277 yards by season's end. Kelly has already topped Osweiler's record with his seventh game of over 300 yards of total offense in a season.
Receptions: Current record - 87 (Shaun McDonald, 2002)
Jaelen Strong was in prime position to crush this mark, but with just 10 catches over his last three games, he has fallen off. He is now on pace for 75 in 13 games, so strong efforts over the next few weeks will get him back on track.
Receiving Yards: Current record - 1,405 (Shaun McDonald, 2002)
Once again, Strong's recent injury-induced "slide" has taken him off his once torrid pace. Strong has just 50 yards over the last three games, putting him on pace for 1,051 yards through 13 games.
Field Goals Made - Current record - 28 (Luis Zendejas, 1983)
True freshman Zane Gonzalez has made 13 consecutive kicks, giving him 17 makes through eight weeks, but did not attempt one against Utah. That puts him on a pace of just over 25 for the year, so he will need a very slight increase in pace to top Zendejas.
