SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale police said speed and alcohol were factors in a collision that caused serious injuries to two drivers Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., a 71-year-old Scottsdale woman driving a Toyota Avalon pulled out of westbound Trailside View to southbound Pima Road and was struck by a northbound Ford F150.

According to Scottsdale police, the pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The collision caused the truck to roll and its driver to be ejected.

Both drivers were transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center for serious injuries.

Police said both speed and alcohol were factors on the part of the pickup driver identified only as a 43-year-old Phoenix man.

The roadway was closed for five hours while police investigated.
